The Great False Hope – Why What the West Thinks Doesn’t Matter

I know many Tibetans think women’s rights should wait because they believe addressing our social problems honestly will discourage foreign support for Tibetan freedom. This article that recently appeared in Outlook Tibet and The Tibet Post shows why we can’t expect the outside world to save Tibet, we need to focus on standing up on out own feet. Worrying about what the West thinks has only prevented us from moving forward, with little to show for it. Part of standing on our own feet is taking care of the community and building healthy families. Instead of hiding our problems in false hope of someone else coming to our rescue, we need to find the strength to fix our problems and create a strong independent society wherever we live.
